John Galliano Artist Moment

1. His designs are always designed in a way no one would wear. Why do you think he designs this way?

John Charles Galliano is a Gibraltar-born british fashion designer who was the head designer of French fashion companies Givenchy, Christian Dior and John Galliano (his own label). He is currently the creative director of Paris-based fashion house Maison Margiela.

If people look at most of his designs, there are mostly designed in a way no one would wear in public. I think he designs this way because by having the outfit eye appealing instead of wearing, he can show his focus and main idea of his creation. He identified that his love of theatre and femininity is his center focus his creations and said in 2010 that his role (dress) is to seduce. By making the dress in a luxuary, eye appealing design, he is attracting the audience's eye, which is what his original role and focus was.

Dressing up. People just don't do it anymore. we have to change that

2. Who do you think the "people" is? Do you think he is talking about the modern designers who fear making extradonairy designs? Explain your thoughts.

One of John Galliano's famous quote was "Dressing up. People just don't don't it anymore." We have to change that." In that quote he is indicating a specific "people" in his quote. I think he is talking about the modern designers who fear making extrodinairy designs. I think like that because modern fashion designers these days care mostly about how would their style fit in public and I think from that, Galliano thinks they aren't really showing their full potentials and said they have to change.
