Do you feel offended that the cup this year isn't expressive to the holiday spirit? Why or why not?
After the video of starbucks' new red christmas cup, some people are offended that thecup this year isn't expressive to the holiday spirit. However for me, it's acceptable and I don't get why people are so sensitive with this. It does look plain compared to the previous design, however there's a word "simplicity is beauty" and I think it's still pretty. Also, with the pure red on the cup, it attracts people (color red triggers taste and hunger) so it's a smart move to attracts constomers.
Do you think the matter was blown out of proportion?
I think the mater was absolutely blown out of proportion. I mean, it's just a red cup, it won't end the world. The news said people are now boycotting startbucks for they have "mocked" jesus and even the presidental candidate Donald Trump said that people should boycott starbucks. Also from a famous voting site there was a vote of if people like the red cup and from the result below almost half doesn't care. So why people make a fuss about it? Starbucks is where people come and drink cofee, not for where people comment about cups and their color.
If you had to redesign the red cup to appease Joshua and non- Christian, how would you design it? Sketch and explain it.
If i had to redesign the red cup to appease Joshua and non-Christian, I would still put the red cup, but instead of letting it pure red, i will put green vines going up the cup. With the contrast of red, green and the leave that look similar to the one with the dove, it gives the christmas feeling. For the non christians it wouldn't look so empty anymore, it will look appleasing to the eye.
